About this event
This session will not only provide a brief overview of eating disorders, including diagnostic criteria, but also some simple and practical strategies to help clients that struggle with disordered eating and diagnosed eating disorders. This session will also provide an overlay of the “why” behind the behavior to help clinicians (and clients) gain insight to the behaviors and how to engage in healthier choices. We will discuss what treatment might look like and some foundational therapeutic strategies and goals will be addressed.

Learning Objectives:
1. Participants will learn what the diagnostic criteria for eating disorders as well as some assessment strategies.
2. Participants will gain awareness of the etiology of the behaviors.
3. Participants will gain some foundational skills and strategies to assist these clients in an outpatient setting


About the Presenter:

Malcolm Horn, Ph.D., LCSW, LAC, received her Doctorate in Psychology, with a teaching emphasis, from Walden University. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is licensed by the state of Montana as an Addiction Counselor. She also had accreditation from NAADAC as a Masters Level Addiction Counselor (MAC) and a Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). She is the incoming President-Elect for NAADAC. She currently works as the Chief Behavioral Health Officer for Rimrock Foundation, a CARF-Accredited co-occurring treatment facility that provides the full ASAM continuum of care in Billings, MT. She is responsible for ongoing training and education for
clinical and support staff and supervises the mental health counseling team. She is passionate about changing systems to improve access to care and reduce the stigma that surrounds mental health and substance use disorders.
