Participants will gain an understanding of the neuroscience behind mindfulness and how it supports emotion regulation. Concrete strategies to use both proactively and in moments of distress will be demonstrated for participants to implement into self care and clinical practice. Participants will reflect on their own polyvagal response to stress and develop a plan to effectively manage this response. This is highly experiential so participants are encouraged to engage in demonstrations in order to maximize the benefit of this workshop. Intended Audience (what level of staff/administrative or clinical or either): Either, but more applicable for clinical.
Learning Objectives:At the end of this course, participants will be able to: 1. Participants will learn at least 3 concrete mindfulness skills to integrate for self care and clinical practice. 2. Participants will understand and be able to explain the three parts of the polyvagal system.
3. Participants will be able to identify and use two proactive mindfulness skills and two reactive mindfulness skills to effectively navigate the stress ladder.
